Hannah's Hyperfixation Corner
Spread the love

Hello there, happy Friday and welcome to this week’s rendition of Hannah’s hyperfixation corner! Let’s get right into it, shall we?

DVDs

I’m a fan of physical media, I always have been. But recently when I found a few of my favorite films that I really wanted to watch had been removed from the streaming services I have access to- it made me so frustrated and angry that I just outright bought the DVD/blu-ray copies so I can watch them whenever I want. The film in question was the 2012 version of Dredd, which I highly recommend if you haven’t seen it. I also bought a copy of Die Hard so I can watch it every Christmas season without having to worry about what streaming service it will be on.

If you also get frustrated at your favorite films or TV shows not being available for you to stream, try looking at your local library! If you have a DVD player, or a gaming console with a disc port, you can rent entire TV series and movies for little to no cost from your local library. Your library might also offer digital streaming of certain titles through services like Kanopy or Hoopla, so definitely worth checking out!

The Beach/Summer

The calendar is saying it’s spring, but my South Florida senses are telling me it’s practically already summer. I’ve been very fixated on summer content in terms of both consuming it and planning my own. I’m lucky enough to live pretty close to an amazing beach, so I’ve been going when I can to walk a 5k and get my exercise in. Because if you’re gonna go the distance, why not do it where you can hear the ocean and take a dip to cool off?

Also very excited because my birthday present to myself this year was a GoPro! I’ve been wanting one for a few years now, and I finally took the plunge and bought one. Hopefully that means more beach, pool and even waterpark content headed your way this summer!

A quick protip for anyone looking for bathing suits on a budget: go to Ross!! I found a full bathing suit set there for $15 that would have easily been $30-$40 elsewhere!

Home Decor

Geeky yet classy home decor is everything I’ve always wanted in life. As someone currently trying to navigate the hellscape that is buying someplace to live, I dream about my future home decor and setup to distract from the emotional pain the process has provided me with. I’ve been pinning maximalist home decor ideas pretty much nonstop. I’ve been really vibing with a pink, blue, green color scheme, with visions of a blue velvet couch with pink decor all over, and lots of plants throughout. With of course, dedicated geeky decor all over the walls.

Beyond that, I can’t wait to have my own yard or even just a decently sized balcony. In my dream home I’d have a tiny backyard bar that would be Middle-Earth themed, and all would be right with the world. Until that shining day when I can buy a place to call my own, I’ll keep dreaming, and keep pinning.

High Heels

Growing up, I was never a high-heels gal. I hated their very existence and would refuse to wear them wherever I could. Now that I’m older, I’ve grown to appreciate them and what they can add to an outfit or silhouette. I’ve also had the amazing luck recently of finding beautiful heels for a really great price (like a pair of mustard yellow and fake snakeskin heels from Chinese Laundry for less than $20). Because I work from home, I don’t usually get to wear these amazing shoes anymore- so I’m trying my hardest to find occasions to wear them outside the house. Taking Instagram photos in them is one thing, but to truly appreciate them, I want to wear them out and about.

Cooking With More Veggies

If you know me, you already know I love to cook. I’ve been trying out new vegetarian and vegan recipes lately in order to convince myself to eat more vegetables (I am a reformed picky eater who doesn’t really like salads, so I’ve been sneaking veggies into every meal that I can). Let me tell you, there are some truly delicious veggie-based meals out there. While I’m not a vegan or a vegetarian, the cost of meat has become prohibitive, so I have been striving to move towards more plant-based meals in general.

If you’re in the market for recipes, I recently made this cabbage curry as well as this baked eggplant, and highly recommend both. The cabbage curry pairs amazingly with the garlic rice from the Chef Special as featured on Binging With Babish (I make that rice pretty much monthly, it goes with everything).
